Wow. I’m kind of just sitting here, trying to think of how I feel about this book.

Honestly, it feels like it should already be a TV show. I feel like it is. I can imagine the settings and spaces that Emilie described. I can feel the longing and yearning, guilt and heartbreak that was told in this story. I feel like I know Patrick and Aisling.

This book shows two broken people looking for hope in a new land, working towards a brighter future, with God as the lamp to their path forward.

I loved this book. Thank you, Emilie, for the time, research, love, and tears that went into writing their story. I’ll recommend this one to anyone who will listen.

I really enjoyed this debut novel. Emilie balanced the heartbreak of famine & loss with the love story between Aisling & Patrick and overcoming their grief & pasts. You can feel Patrick’s struggle with feeling guilty & confronting his fears to move forward.

A beautiful read for anyone who enjoys faith-centred historical romance and stories about rebuilding a life after loss.

A line that stayed with me: “You do not have to suffer forever to prove that you loved her.”
